 His Excellency Obaid Al-Zaabi has wide ranging professional experience in finance, capital market regulations, accounting, auditing, compliance, financial planning, corporate finance, and banking sectors. H.E. Al-Zaabi worked with many leading financial institutions across the UAE, US, UK, and Malaysia. Previously, he served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), DCEO and Advisor in the Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA) for the past 14 years. The SCA is the federal capital market regulator in the UAE.

Prior to this, he worked as a Senior Director in real estate finance and bank operations for more than ten years. In addition, he served as a Senior Accountant and Auditor for the UAE Central Bank and the AFGHQ.

During his tenure, His Excellency represented the UAE Securities Market regulator in several working groups within international organizations, such as IOSCO, Financial Stability Board (FSB), Union of Arab Securities Authorities (UASA), Committee of GCC Financial Market Authorities at GCC, GCC Accounting and Auditing Organization(GCCAAO), Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) and the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI).

His Excellency was nominated and served as the Vice Chair of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) Board and as Chairman of the Growth and Emerging Markets Committee (GEMC), IOSCO’s largest regional committee that consists of 90 ordinary jurisdictional members and 20 affiliate members. He also served as Co-Chair of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) OECD Working Group on Corporate Governance at the OECD. Further he was appointed as the Vice Chairman of the UAE Financial Restructuring Committee and Chairman of the Technical Committee for Financial Restructuring in the Ministry of Finance in the UAE.
